Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has revealed he could never have imagined the success he would have in his first season in England.

Hernandez has scored 13 Premier League goals, and 20 in all competitions, after being signed for a fee in the region of £6 million from Guadalajara before the World Cup finals last summer. He was an unknown then, but now the Mexico international is becoming one of the most feared strikers in the division and keeping the league’s top scorer, Dimitar Berbatov, on the bench.

“This is unbelievable,” he told MUTV. “Of course I imagined that we could win the title but I never thought I would play so often and score so many goals. I am delighted to be part of this great team.

“We could do the double. I dream about that. We are working to win the Champions League. We can celebrate in two weeks’ time. Before that we need to work a lot and to be right for that game.”

Hernandez won the crucial penalty at Blackburn, scored by Wayne Rooney, which earned a 1-1 draw and sealed a 19th title for the Red Devils. There was much debate about the award of the spot-kick, but the player is adamant he was fouled by goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

“It was definitely a penalty,” he said. “I felt the contact. “I wasn’t trying to be unfair or get a penalty that was not there. We know Wayne Rooney loves that type of moment, under that pressure. We knew he would score to win us the title.”
